Dear Parent or Guardian,

Following is a short list of questions and answers about the library you might like to know.

Since the beginning of school students have been learning about proper book care.  Until children have learned these skills, they do not take a book home.

Starting today your child will be able to receive a library book each time he/she comes to the library.

Each child is provided with at least 20 books at their table to choose from.  Also, if a child has a special request I will provide them with a specific book.  This is done because there are over 1,000 easy books for primary students.  If I allowed all K-2 students to choose from the shelves, students often could not make up their minds, students would fight about the books, and the shelves would be unusable by anyone else.

Every student receives 40 minutes of library instruction every 4 days.  During that time, 10 minutes is used for book exchange.  The remaining time students are taught basic reading and literature appreciation skills.  Some examples of activities are:  creating alphabet books, writing stories, learning about certain authors, and many other activities.

The best time to call is from 8:00-9:00 a.m. or e-mail Mrs. Long at:  along@homercenter.org.   You can also send a note in with your child.

I sincerely hope that your child enjoys library class and that you have a better understanding of what happens in the library.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me here at the school.

Here’s to a year filled with reading enjoyment,

Mrs. Long
