New PA Law Takes Effect June 6, 2025

Pennsylvania Act 44 of 2025 (effective January 6, 2026) requires schools to provide timely communication to families and staff when a weapon-possession incident occurs that is connected to school, such as on school property, at a school-sponsored activity, or on school transportation. In most cases, the school must issue a notification within 24 hours to the appropriate school community (for example, the affected building or shared campus). The notice will share general information about the incident and safety steps taken, while protecting student privacy by not including personally identifiable student information.
